Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do cabin air filters protect you against?

micronAir offers two types of filters to protect you against pollutants: particle filters and combi filters. Particle filters protect you against pollens and respirable particles like diesel soot and micro-organisms (spores, bacteria, fungi). The fine-dust contamination inside the vehicle can be reduced using micronAir. The filters also prevent the heating and air-conditioning systems from being soiled, thus helping to reduce maintenance and repair costs. The same applies for combifilters, which provide additional protection against harmful gases like benzene or toluene, and unpleasant odours. In the summer months, micronAir combifilters significantly reduce ozone contamination.

  • Can cabin air filters also provide protection again fine dusts?

As required and requested by the automotive industry, micronAir particle filters offer optimum arrestance of respirable fine-dust particles like soot or industrial dust. micronAir particle filters exhibit maximized filtration performance for pollens, abraded particles and road dust.

  • When and how often do I have to replace a cabin air filter?

In order to ensure optimum filtration performance, micronAir cabin air filters should be replaced every 15,000 to 30,000 km, but at least once a year. We recommend replacing the cabin air filter before the pollen season, meaning at the beginning of the year and in autumn, so as to guard against misted-up windows in the winter months. Combifilters, meaning filters with a layer of activated carbonl to provide protection against unpleasant gases like ozone, should usually be replaced more often.

  • For what models of cars are cabin air filters available?

micronAir is available for almost all cars registered in Europe – from Alfa Romeo to Volvo. We also offer an attractive range of options for commercial vehicles, buses and specialized machinery. In all, we can supply more than 300 different products for more than 700 different vehicle models. You will find the appropriate filter for your car here.

  • What does the micronAir cabin air filter cost?

The prices vary from model to model. For one year of clean, fresh air, you should expect 10 to 20 euros for particle filters. Combifilters are available for between 15 and 40 euros. To give a typical calculation; for a car journey from Hamburg to Munich (about 700 kilometers), you will get perceptibly fresher and purer air for a mere 50 cents.

  • Can I replace an old particle filter by a combi or allergen filter?

Basically, “yes”. Thanks to its special layer of activated carbon, the combi filter provides additional protection against harmful gases and unpleasant odours, such as ozone gases in summer. The allergen filter has an additional biocide- and nano-silver free layer with a fruit extract that reliably denaturates air-floating allergens. Particle filters, combi filters and allergen filters are basically identical in dimensions, so that the same installation instructions apply for all types of filter. Some automakers are already installing the combi or allergen filter as a standard feature.

  • How long does it take to install a cabin air filter?

The basic principle involved here is: the cabin air filters should be replaced by an expert workshop. It takes between 5 and 20 minutes to install a micronAir filter, depending on the type of vehicle involved. Workshops that offer micronAir carry out the replacement job in accordance with our instructions, so as to ensure full functional efficacy. You will find a workshop near you here.

  • Are original filters better than micronAir?

Most original filters are in fact from micronAir, the Number One among cabin air filter manufacturer.

  • What is meant by the "tunnel effect"?

Vehicles in front of you cause an exhaust fume tunnel. The pollutants thus released are sucked into the passenger compartment in concentrated form. The exhaust fume concentration there is significantly higher than outside. In vehicles without a cabin air filter, the unfiltered pollutants reach values up to six times as high as at the edge of the roadway. Possible consequences: headaches, nausea and allergic reactions.

  • Does micronAir help with allergies?

With pollens, in particular, only micronAir offers reliable protection even over lengthy periods of service. If you as an allergy-sufferer would like to know more about the cabin air filters, we would recommend you to get in touch with your national Allergy and Asthma Association.
