Indoor air pollution up to 5 times higher than outside
We tend to think of air pollution as something outside -- smog, ozone, or haze hanging in the air, especially in summer. But the truth is, the air inside worksites, offices, and other buildings can be five times more polluted than the air outside. Air pollution is inside your workplace, but you can’t always see it.5-6

What are virions?:
Virions are organic structures that spread as particles, known as ‘Viruses’, and usually have a diameter of 0.015 µm to 0.4 µm (µm = micrometre). One micrometre corresponds to a thousandth of a millimetre. Viruses being very small are allocated to the PM1 category. The classification of particles into the categories PM10, PM2.5 and PM1 is based on the "National Air Quality Standard for Particulate Matter 1 " of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is accepted and used worldwide.
This classification plays a particularly important role in air filtration, as the size of the particles to be filtered is important in mechanical filtration. The choice of the right filter is critical.
Freudenberg S.A.F.E.air Room Pressurisation and filtration reduces the dangers of unseen pathogens and virions in the workplace by ventilation:
Freudenberg S.A.F.E.air® pressurisation systems, effectively filter out pathogens generated outside the room and ensure that no foreign contaminants enter the room. It provides 100% fresh air into the room which is the preferred method against viruses and pathogens. 4
Carbon Dioxide in enclosed rooms.
- Carbon Dioxide CO2 is a colourless, odourless, incombustible gas, present in the atmosphere with a density of about 53% higher than that of dry air.
- Occurring naturally in Earth's atmosphere as a trace gas and is also formed during respiration.
- Concentrations can build up in an unventilated room with associated detrimental health effects.
Exposure to high concentrations of Carbon Dioxide can produce a variety of health effects. These may include headaches, dizziness, restlessness, a tingling or pins or needles feeling, difficulty breathing, sweating, tiredness, increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, coma, asphyxia, and convulsions.
Freudenberg Filtration Technologies Pressurisation Systems introduces clean fresh air into the room thus diluting the CO2 and removing it through leaks in the buildings and/or openings.
The hidden dangers of CO2 levels and associated health effects.
Particle Concentration | Effect on Personal |
---|---|
250-500ppm | Normal background concentration in outdoor ambient air |
400-1,000ppm | Concentrations typical of occupied indoor spaces with good air exchange |
1,000-2,000ppm | Complaints of drowsiness and poor air. |
2,000-5,000ppm | Headaches, sleepiness and stagnant, stale, stuffy air. Poor concentration, loss of attention, increased heart rate and slight nausea may also be present. |
5,000ppm | Workplace max exposure limit (as 8-hour TWA) in most jurisdictions |
How the S.A.F.E.air Room HEPA pressurisation filtration works:
- Unfiltered Air In
- Pre-filter module
- Fan module
- Hospital-grade HEPA filter module
- Filtered purified air out
The S.A.F.E.air Room HEPA Pressurisation Air Filtration is extremely versatile and is suitable for use in the following areas
- HOSPITAL GRADE AIR to EN 1822:2009 - ISO 29463
The HEPA H4 - ISO 45 H filters provide hospital-grade air into the room for the occupants. The S.A.F.E.air Room Air Filters are fitted with the same HEPA filters that are used in cleanrooms and hospital operating theatres giving the room occupants the cleanest safest breathing air.
- HIGH AIRFLOW
The HEPA S.A.F.E.air Room Air Filter is designed to clean the air in a 1003 Mtr room 24 times an hour, working in conjunction with current ventilation or climate-control systems, it is highly recommended that these ventilation or climate-control systems have their filters replaced at the time of installation of the S.A.F.E.air Room Filter for maximum efficiency.
The design supply air flow rate depends on several factors including health, comfort requirements, the number of occupants and indoor air quality, not only on the size of the room. This is why “air changes per hour” is a poor basis for ventilation criteria. The S.A.F.E.air Room HEPA Air Filter has been designed with maximum flexibility in mind allowing for a wide output range with a Max of 2400m3/h (see table below for corresponding results in different-sized rooms). The setpoint can be selected by the user via a potentiometer (included).
