New micronAir Gas Shield stops gases and odors
Innovative activated carbon solution improves cabin air quality
Freudenberg Filtration Technologies has introduced a new premium activated carbon selection for automotive cabin air filters: the micronAir Gas Shield line. Three regionally customized activated carbon combinations are now available to adsorb a wide range of harmful gases and unpleasant odors from the air. The specific models are tailored to car manufacturers’ needs and regional environmental conditions. This will help to further enhance cabin air quality and contribute to passengers’ respiratory health.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nine out of ten people worldwide breathe polluted air. Car passengers can be severely affected by pollution. Severe respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) or asthma can be the result. Since the types and concentrations of harmful gases in the air vary considerably around the world, Freudenberg Filtration Technologies now offers three regionally customized packages employing its proven micronAir combi filter.
Tailor-made combinations
The new micronAir Gas Shield comes in the versions ‘Standard Protection,’ ‘Odor Protection,’ and ‘Premium Protection.’ The three models are characterized by different combinations of activated carbon – each of which are optimized for specific types of gases and odors. “In-depth research on emerging trends, developments in mobility and environmental influences form the basis of our product development,” explains Barry Kellar, Global Vice President Automotive Filters at Freudenberg Filtration Technologies. “Since different activated carbons, impregnations and new resin technologies help to adsorb different gases, it is important to have the right mixture. We adapted our activated carbon layers in keeping with our research findings and 30-year-long experience. The result: three ideal formulas to meet new customer needs.”
‘Standard Protection’ focuses on filtering out acid gases such as nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide or hydrogen sulfide, organic substances, VOCs and ozone. ‘Odor protection’ additionally targets especially noxious molecules such as ammonia, while ‘Premium Protection’ is further designed to additionally adsorb aldehydes.
Tested and proven
“We exclusively use activated carbon of the highest quality, which allows us to offer optimal solutions,” Kellar adds. Both the nonwoven and activated carbon components have been extensively tested at the ‘Filtration Science Lab’ in Weinheim, Germany, where the filter experts bundle their experience in filtration technology. “We have analyzed our customers and the challenges in their respective regions carefully, which helps us provide the ideal combi filter solution for their needs,” Kellar says. “Our new product range can be matched with their specific priorities – whether the focus is on coarse dust, fine dust or allergens. This ensures maximum protection for car passengers around the world.”
