High-performance filters for air purifiers

Specific application know-how and long term experience - a good foundation for the best filtration solutions

Air purifiers are wonderful devices that improve our home environment and benefit our health in the long term. At one time, houses used to be much less sealed off from the outdoors, but better construction has made houses more airtight, which makes indoor air less pure. Generally, an air purifier is less expensive than a whole-house fresh air system and can be moved easily. A HEPA (high-efficiency particulate arrestor) filter, which removes 99.97% of particles less than 0.3 micrometers, increases your chances of improving the air quality in your home. That's why more and more families choose to have one or more home air purifiers.

A high-performance air purifier can help rid homes of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are emitted from products like carpets, paint and disinfectants. However, the most common use of these purifiers is to rid the home of airborne particles like mold, pet dander and dust mites. If you or anyone in your family suffers from allergies, a purifier can be extremely helpful. Manufacturers are always working on making their air purifiers more efficient. The most appropriate filter combination or an innovative multi-function filter can always be key to solving a problem.

Filter combination

Optimal one-stop shop solutions with a multitude of filter design options

To achieve the air quality requirments of your air purifiers, we combine air filters of different classes and designs into multi-stage systems. Multi-stage filtration systems ensure effective filtration to protect people and save energy.

Multi-function filters

High-performance filter solutions with innovative filtration media

A specific product range, including an impregnated pleatable carbon media from in-house production, has been developed to address the formaldehyde challenge at new homes in China, meeting the stringent performance requirements per Chinese standard GB/T18801. The carbon media has an ideal combination of gas phase filtration and particulate filtration in one filter for PM10, PM2.5, formaldehyde, TVOC, ammonia, odor and etc. A biocide- and nano-silver free bio-functional layer can be integrated upon request to provide triple protection against the in household air pollutants and contaminants.

Quality

  • High quality of raw materials and production

We purchase high-quality raw materials and manufacture all our particle, activated-carbon and combifilter media in-house. These media are in turn converted into filter elements using, in some cases, patented technologies. Moreover, we are also able to manufacture support housings for our filter elements. Thanks to this high development and production penetration, we are able to ensure that the very latest state of the art is always incorporated in product optimization.

  • Up-to-date quality management system

A modern-day quality management system per TS 16949 provides a secure underpinning for all operations, from the initial development step through delivery of the series-manufactured products to after-sales service. In addition, we also responsively adhere to further requirements, such as specific quality standards drawn up by our customers.

  • Rigorous testing process

It is vital to design components to ensure optimum filter area loading and filter lifetime in the specified purifier installation space even under the toughest of conditions. Against the background of lengthy practical experience and purposeful observation of the filter’s characteristics over its useful lifetime, conclusions can be drawn for component optimization and the development of new filter media. Our filters are designed and developed using state-of-the-art testing technology. In test channels conforming to DIN 71460-1, our filters are tested with exhaustive rigor.

Besides the standard tests in accordance with DIN, each filter is also subjected to Freudenberg’s own specific tests. These special tests include exposing the filter to atmospheric dust, synthetic fine dust, temperature and moisture stress, and much, much more. To supplement these laboratory tests, the filter’s performance data are also recorded under real conditions in a traveling vehicle. Only when the filter has passed all the tests “summa cum laude” is its development regarded as concluded. And mass production, of course, is also subject to continuous quality control, from the filter medium to the finished filter cassette.

  • Strong research and development capability

We are solidly backed by the Freudenberg Technology Innovation Unit, which focuses on the research and development of market-leading technology. Globally, we have more than 60 experts in various fields, including filter selection, design and testing.

Standards

Many different applications necessitate the use of an air purifier

  • Household contaminant loads
  • Fine and ultra-fine airborne particles
  • Allergens and bacteria

The filters in an air purifier are the key elements for capturing various indoor air pollutants, such as PM 2.5, (ultra-)fine particles, formaldehyde, toluene, odors, allergens, etc. Freudenberg provides one-stop solutions including HEPA filters, gas phase filters, combifilters and anti-allergy filters.

The filters meet the highest requirements of various national standards, including Chinese standard GB/T 18801:2015, ANSI/AHAM AC-1:2013 and Japanese standard JEM 1467:2013.
